Folktale celebrates Fat Tuesday

Folktale Winery has two events coming up: a Fat Tuesday party on Feb. 9 and a Valentine’s dance Feb. 14.

The Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras party, beginning at 6 p.m., will feature food, music and dancing. Tickets are $10.

The “Bubbles and Sweet Bites” dance, from 8 to 11 p.m., is in the winery’s Barrel Room. Tickets are $25 and include a glass of bubbles, dessert and music by The Julie Capili Quartet.

Sunset Lounge launches new menu

The Sunset Lounge at Hyatt Carmel Highlands is launching a new menu and a weekday happy hour Thursday.

The happy hour is Monday through Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. Discounted items will include shishito peppers for $5 and chicken-olive empanadas for $8. Executive sous chef Alvaro Dalmau has created the tapas. Other items on the new bar menu include scallop ceviche, octopus a la plancha and a Highlands burger.

Wineries partner for Super Bowl crawl

Dawn’s Dream Winery and Galante Vineyards are teaming up for a winery crawl between the two tasting rooms beginning at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7.

There will be wine and snacks, plus raffle prizes and wine specials announced during the game (which will be shown on HDTVs).

Williams-Sonoma sets February classes

Williams-Sonoma at the Del Monte Shopping Center has announced topics for its February cooking classes.

The free classes are demonstration-style and held 10 to 11 a.m. every Sunday. Feb. 7 is spring rolls, Feb. 14 is smokeless grilling, Feb. 21 is cooking with cast iron and Feb. 28 is Thai cooking techniques.

There is also a “cookbook club” class at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10. Cost is $75 per person; participants typically receive up to two hours of cooking demonstrations, a three-course tasting menu and a copy of the cookbook. This month, the book is “Lucky Peach.”

Pacific’s Edge sets Valentine’s menu

Pacific’s Edge at Hyatt Carmel Highlands is serving a Valentine’s menu from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.

Each of the four courses includes a choice from three to five selections. First course highlights include braised pork belly with quince paste and shaved cauliflower/parsley salad. Entrées include slow-cooked short rib with cumin roasted heirloom carrots, Peruvian potato and crispy sunchoke chips or local chanterelle and hazelnut tart with Laura Chenel’s goat cheese.

Montrio sets menu for Valentine’s dinner

Montrio Bistro will be serving a special menu on Feb. 14.

The Valentine’s menu dinner for two features Muscovy duck breast with duck rillette, endive, pistachio apple butter, apple gastrique and duck glace. Cost is $49.

PACIFIC GROVE

Prix fixe menu at Il Vecchio

Il Vecchio will be serving a four-course menu on Valentine’s Day.

First course is a choice between two salads. Second course pasta choices are house-made gnocchi or ravioli. Entrées include tri-tip slow-simmered in Chianti with mushrooms. Cost is $46.

SALINAS

Wine-themed talk, book signing

Chef/TV host Narsai David will interview author/wine expert Richard G. Peterson from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, at the Hiram Corey House on River Road.

After the duo discuss the early development of the Monterey wine industry, Peterson will answer questions and sign copies of his book “The Winemaker.” Peterson is president of The Monterey Vineyard and Taylor California Cellars and past president of The American Society for Enology and Viticulture. David is food/wine editor at KCBS in San Francisco.
