Came here for the first time and loved my experience with Bonnie. I went in with a style in mind that was new to me (and I was pretty nervous about!) but they were extremely helpful in making me feel more comfortable about it. They even made sure to give me tips for maintenance that were great to know about. The salon was also clean and cute. Will definitely be back!

I had a really negative experience booking with their MindBody Online app. I booked an appointment weeks in advance, but the stylist (Claire) was unable to reach me to confirm, so she cancelled my appointment. I had no notification whatsoever that the appointment was cancelled. So, I showed up only to find out that she had given my appointment to someone else.
Then, after showing her my hair and starting to talk about rescheduling, she refused to reschedule me because she "didn't like my energy." It went from an annoying scheduling mix up to being pretty insulting.

Lauren Sulsky is a balayage genius! She used the painting technique, which takes some time but is well worth the wait. She is intuitive, experienced, funny and accommodating. She delivered exactly what I wanted. Seriously, you'll want to plan a fun lunch or dinner out to celebrate your new look after you see Lauren. I've received so many compliments about my hair. The before and after pics say it all.

As others have said, if you are looking for customer service and professionalism look elsewhere. I made an apt with their "blonding specialist" Alisandra Cowen. Unfortunately Alisandra lacks experience, communication, empathy, and did not prioritize preserving the integrity of my hair. She used damaging methods like roughly teasing all the hair on my head before bleaching, left me alone in the salon under the dryer for over 15 min, didn't use any conditioner or any heat protection/styling products before blow drying my hair flat to my head (I was shown photos of her dogs multiple times but was never asked how i styled my hair).. i could go on! I've had my hair done by different stylists over the years but I've never experienced treatment like this ever. Afterward my hair felt like straw and several inches was broken off so I had to purchase more products to try to repair the damage that was done. I understand mistakes happen, but Alisandra never took accountability or apologized for what happened and just expected me to trust her and go back for more services. I asked her for a partial refund, what i paid minus product used, which seems more than fair. After being ghosted by her I reached out to the salon directly to explain what happened. The owner was detached and unapologetic as others have said, blaming the breakage on my "split ends" (I literally had my hair cut a week before this service) and told me to "take a break from highlighting my hair for a while"... that was her solution, lol. Once Kinship has your money they don't care. I've never written a bad review before, but I want to warn others- with so many amazing salons in Santa Cruz there's no reason to settle for this place.

Hi Darya, I will reiterate my email I sent you here again.
All of my stylists at Kinship are independent business owners. This means that they run their own businesses under the umbrella of Kinship with their own business licenses, business checking accounts etc. I have no ties to their money or how they run their businesses. There may be times that I disagree with their business practices and I still have no say in how they run it.
That being said, we typically handle complaints by the client coming back and us seeing/feeling the hair and then assessing the situation whether it be coming up with a plan for fixing it or refunding the money.
From my understanding and from looking at the text messages between you and Alisandra, she offered you to come back and she said that if you came in to show her your hair and she saw a lot of damage then she would refund you. This is our typical practice as hairstylists with integrity. You opted out of this offer.
I did not see your hair when arriving or when you left so I really have no understanding of what happened. I do know that when you get a highlight that there is a variation of damage because of lightener being used and if you had split ends under that, it’s more likely to split in the ends which is what I see from the photos. Again, this is without seeing your hair or feeling it.
I encourage you to still continue using olaplex and maybe take a break from highlighting and coloring your hair for a while.

I am writing this review after reading the negative review about Alisandra from D L. I started going to Alisandra approximately 4 years ago when I was in desperate need of a color correction. I walked out of the salon that day finally feeling good about my hair! I would never go to anyone else. Her professionalism, style advice and EMPATHY are unmatched. My hair is healthy, blonde and beautiful.

I cannot recommend Lauren at Kinship hair enough. She gave me a transformative cut and color, I walked out of there feeling like a new woman. She was considerate of what I wanted while also suggesting things that would compliment my hair type and color. Her expertise shone through with her suggestions, and I am in love with the finished product. She was professional, kind, and created a relaxing and rejuvenating atmosphere that left me feeling great inside & out. Thank you Lauren!

I live in Seattle but needed a haircut while visiting my daughter. I was lucky enough to score an appointment with Sarah Breeden. She thoughtfully listened to what I wanted, together we came up with a game plan, and I can honestly say it's the best haircut I've had in a very long time.

I had an appointment with Sarah that we couldn't go through with because what I wanted wouldve damaged my hair and I possibly wouldn't have even gotten to the color I wanted. Sarah was so nice about it and gave it to me straight and honestly and referred me to a salon that may be able to do the specialty service I want and helped me figure out what questions to ask. I'm so grateful that she was honest with me,
I've been to kinship hair co before for haircuts and absolutely loved the results, I trust these people as professionals who know what they're doing. The customer service is wonderful and everyone is so sweet and helpful and accommodating

I wrote a review for this place.. I wonder where it went.
I remember this place before it was L'Atelier.. exchanged hands a few times and finally got a much needed up grade (what it is now).
I have never had a negative experience here. I feel comfortable with several technicians so if one is not available, I am know I am in good hands. Cutting straight Asian hair is a task and I have had some god awful experiences with bangs, layers and everything here in between. This place is my safe zone and sanctuary. When you walk in you have coffee, tea and water. The ladies up front are friendly and welcoming. There have been some changes of staff at the front, but the service continues to be on point. The music isn't super loud or obnoxious and the place is always super clean.
The technicians encourage you to purchase products and explain everything they are using but there is no pressure to purchase. Everyone is well versed in all of the products.
Megan and Shawn are goddesses. Both do an amazing job and are very easy to talk to. Since having my hair in their hands the past few years I have gotten more compliments on my hair. The folks here take pride in their work and if something is not working out they are quick to correct it.
The ability to book on line and via FaceBook make it easy for people with crazy schedules.
It is on the pricy side but totally worth it.

I really apprecaite that Megan honored her offer for a complimentary haricut after a lot of time had passed on her initially contacting me. I easily scheduled an appointment and had an amazing haircut with her! She was friendly and super communicative about what she was planning on doing with my hair and why, which I really appreciated! Haircuts can be stressful for me and our chat about what I wanted with my hair was clear and eased any stress I felt. Overall the whole experience was awesome and relaxing, and I'm super happy with my haircut! Thanks again, Megan!

I apologize you were not happy with your last service. I do see in our system that you have not been in since September 2018 and there are notes from your color consultation service that your haircut may have been too short. I assure you that if I would have known this you would have gotten a discount or complimentary haircut the following time. If you would ever like to give us a try again, I would personally cut your hair complimentary to make up for it.

Megan PietyJun 27, 2019Previous reviewHonestly I was pretty disappointed when I got my haircut here awhile ago. The first cut was good, but when I went back later, they cut it way too short for me. When I came back to see if there was anything they could do (not much) they didn't even offer me a discount on my next service, nor an apology. When I'm paying close to $100 for a haircut, I expect better service. Will not be coming back.
