Bing Delivers State Of City Address

DETROIT (WWJ) -  Detroit Mayor Dave Bing focused on his administration's accomplishments and the challenges ahead during his second State of the City address Tuesday night at the Max M. Fisher Music Center.

Bing said since taking office in May, 2009, Detroit's budget deficit has been halved, from more than 300 million dollars to 150 million. Violent crime is down, unemployment is at a two-year low and a number of vacant houses and businesses have been demolished.

But, Bing reminded his audience of 3,000 that "Detroit is at a crossroads" and much work remains to be done. "We are a work in progress," said the mayor.

Governor Rick Snyder was in the audience when Bing said the Republican's proposed cuts in revenue sharing to cities would have a more severe impact on Detroit than any other city in the state.  He also said Detroit will present to state officials next month what he called "an ambitious but realistic plan" aimed at eliminating the Motor City's budget deficit.
