Philadelphia Police Officer Forced To Shoot Attacking Dog

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A police officer was forced to shoot a dog after the animal apparently attacked him in Northeast Philadelphia Monday morning.

The incident happened at about 8:45 a.m. in the 1400 block of Unity Street in the city's Frankford section.

According to police, a 15th District officer discharged his weapon at a pit bull after the dog attacked him.

The officer suffered a hand injury and was taken to a local hospital to be treated and later released.

The injuries suffered by the dog are reportedly not life-threatening.
