TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo launched the third phase of the Employment Investment program in Wonogiri, Central Java, on Friday, January 22, 2016, expecting an absorption of 11,727 workers.

The launch of the program coincided with the inauguration of a garment factory operated by PT Nesia Pan Pasific Clothing in Wonogiri.

Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) head Franky Sibarani said that the program, launched in October 2015, had shown positive results.

"A total of 29,788 workers have been absorbed during phase I and phase II," Franky said.

A total of 16 companies participated in the first stage of the Employment Investment Program that would last from 2015 to 2019. The companies were projected to absorb a total of 121,285 workers.

The second phase of the program was launched in Gresik in November 2015. Over the next four years, 14 companies participating in the program are expected to absorb 51,767 workers.

"Ten companies participate in the third phase of the program," Franky said, adding that the companies, which originated from Bali, Nusa Tenggara, Maluku and Papua were expected to absorb 7,232 workers.

Franky revealed that the implementation of the program was concentrated in East Indonesia to reduce the income gap among Indonesian regions.

"We also want to promote that East Indonesia is good for investments," Franky added.
