Veteran trainer Nacho Beristain fears for the career of WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) - if the Mexican superstar intends to move forward with a mandatory fight against WBA/IBO/IBF champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs).

Golovkin is the mandatory challenger to Canelo's title. The World Boxing Council allowed the two boxers to take interim bout before coming together in the fall. Golovkin seems to be coming back on April 23rd at Madison Square Garden, and Canelo will defend his belt at the new MGM arena on May 7th.

Nacho says Golovkin is just an overall better fighter. Golovkin was an Olympic silver medal winner with a world level amateur career.

"In my opinion, they should not do this fight because the Kazakhstani is much better than Canelo. His style is not as flashy as that of Canelo, but he is better. He has a lot of different tactics, unlike Canelo. I think he could destroy [Canelo's] career. Currently, Canelo is the most successful fighter of the world, and he is very important to Mexican boxing. But I think Golovkin may even force him to retire," Nacho told Fight Hub.

As to why he believes this, Nacho gave his reasoning and says he did not view Canelo as the rightful winner of November's fight against Miguel Cotto.

"The Kazakhstani has a powerful punch, he is better as a boxer, has a better chin. Based on how I personally look at boxing, Canelo did not win the fight against Cotto. I believe the influence of a lot people was the effect that allowed him to win, and not his boxing skills. In the fight with Golovkin, things will be different. Canelo's defensive skills are not enough to stand in front Golovkin for twelve rounds," Nacho said.
