Dylan Brooks Leads Oregon Ducks Past Fresno State with Double Double

It was a game where four of the Oregon Ducks five starters scored in double figures and held the Fresno State Bulldogs to 29 percent shooting in the first half. Oregon put the game away with foul shots as the game came down to the final minutes and a final shot from Dylan Brooks. He has 21 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

Oregon entered the game against the Fresno State Bulldogs at 5-0 and moving up in the rankings. The Ducks moved up on Monday to 15th in the country following losses to Pac-12 foes California and Arizona over the weekend. Fresno State came in at 5-0 on the season, and a player in Marvelle Harris who averaged 20 points per game. However, it was Oregon that got off to a solid start.

It took several minutes and missed shots, but the Oregon Ducks built an 11 point lead before Fresno State hit two free throws with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. Tyler Dorsey and Elgin Cook had Oregon going early with five points each and the team hitting over 62 percent early in the first half.

As the first half came toward and end Oregon maintained at least a 10 point lead throughout. Fresno State’s shot poorly in the first half, part was shots not hitting the basket, others by a stingy Oregon Defense with three blocks and six steals. The Ducks held the Bulldogs to shooting just under 25 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes of play.

The Oregon Ducks would not let up much as the first half came to a close. Chris Boucher put an exclamation point on a dunk at the 4 minute mark giving the Ducks a 29-17 lead. Casey Benson would add a jump shot as time expired to end the first half giving Oregon a 12 point lead entering the break. No one for either team was in double figures in scoring. Oregon was hitting 50 percent from the floor, Fresno State was hitting at 29 percent.

The second half saw Oregon maintain their lead and just under the 10 minute mark it was 63-48. Fresno State was in foul trouble for much of the first half and now the Ducks would find Dillon Brooks with three fouls, Elgin Cook, Dwayne Benjamin and Kendall Small all had two rolling into the final eight minutes of regulation.

Dwayne Benjamin would hit a jump shot with under 8 minutes to go assuring everyone on the floor scored at least two points on the night for the home team. Fresno State would pull to within 5 points with just under two minutes to go after the teams exchanged free throws. Dylan Brooks would push the lead to 6 with just over one minute left in regulation.

Elgin Cook would seal the game for Oregon with 44 seconds left pushing the lead to 8 points. The Ducks saw four players in double figures on the night. Dylan Brooks(21), Elgin Cook(14) Chris Boucher(14) and Tyler Dorsey(12). Oregon would now hit the road with a 6-0 record visiting Las Vegas, Honolulu, and Boise over the next week and a half.
