In the National Football League, The Tennessee Titans will likely have a losing season despite the efforts of Quarterback Marcus Mariota with limited protection at times. In the loss to Oakland he passed for three touchdowns and may be on pace for a Rookie Passing Record of a Titans Legend.

The Tennessee Titans are not having a very good season, that is clear. However, Quarterback Marcus Mariota has done his best with limited help and has been able to find some successes in 2015. It was another close game on Sunday against the Oakland Raiders that once again, as it has several times this season, came down to the final drive of the game. It again ended in a loss as the former Oregon Ducks Quarterback threw an interception that put another loss on his shoulders and brought the Tennessee Titans to 2-9 on the season.

Marcus Mariota had his lowest throwing percentage of the season, below 60 percent for the first time this seaso despite throwing three touchdown passes to give the Titans the lead with five minutes to go. Despite the loss, Mariota said he was not feeling negative about the loss, but rather sounded resilient, as he has many times at the podium when he was an Oregon Duck,

Not at all, just frustrated. We had another opportunity to win a game and we fell short of that today.

Fans of Tennessee can see the kind of player that Oregon Fans know and love. The kind of player that keeps his head and takes care of business, that is when he is not being chased by a Defensive End because he has no Offensive Line to protect him. Despite the record, Marcus Mariota did accomplish a feat on Sunday that is worthy of note. In the loss, he passed Vince Young for most passing yards as a Titans Rookie, moving ahead of Vince Young. Young’s mark was 2,199 yards back in 2006 and another former Titans/Oilers great, Warren Moon set the all time record for the franchise at 4,690 yards back in 1991 according to Bleacher Report.

Can Mariota catch Moon’s record with five games to go?  It is on of those possible, but not probable answers. However, if Mariota can attain the average over the final five games of the regular season. It is possible. Even with a losing record, there is still something to play for this season. For Marcus Mariota it is consistency and the building blocks for next season. The team needs to stay competitive and upbeat, as hard as that may be. The road only gets harder for the Titans moving forward with games against the New York Jets and Patriots on the road.
