It was a cold day at Autzen Stadium for the 2015 edition of the Civil War between Oregon State and the Oregon Ducks. Mark Helfrich has watched his team reel off seven games in a row for the season, and also seven games in a row in the series with the Beavers. Emotions were high as the hometown fans had a chance to watch some of the winningest athletes in Oregon Football History be introduced one final time including Quarterback Vernon Adams who has come into his own as the leader of the Offense this season. He has thrown for over 2000 yards and 22 touchdowns this season.

It would be a battle of Pride for the Oregon State Beavers who would like nothing less than knock Oregon down a peg to notch their first Pac-12 Conference win of the season. Rivalry games are always fun, but ultimately consistency would win the day for Oregon entering bowl season and a win would go a long way to continue the momentum on both sides of the ball.

The coin toss would go the way of the Beavers who would work five minutes off the clock and Quarterback Seth Collins would take it in for an early score to give Oregon State a 7-0 lead in the Civil War. Oregon would take few plays to get it together, but drives of 15 yards and 24 yards put the ball on the Oregon State 18 yards. It would be 1st and 10 from the 13 yard line for the Ducks one play later. Bralon Addison would take a ten yard carry into the endzone after being stuffed on the right side, he doubled back and headed into the end zone on the left side. The score would tie the game at 7. The assist on the play would go to Vernon Adams with a block.

Victor Bolden would take the ball to the 17 yard line where the Oregon State Beavers would look to answer. The Oregon Defense would hold and break up the third down pass. Henry Mondeux with the breakup as the ball would go back to Oregon and Bralon Addison would await the kick. He would fair catch at the Oregon 42 yard line after a 38 yard kick.

Oregon would get to the Beavers 25 yard line and that was as far as they would get. Aiden Schneider would attempt and miss a field goal that was partially blocked. It was a 39 yard field goal attempt. Oregon State’s Kyle Pecco blocked the kick as the score remained tied at 7. Oregon State would not get far as Charles Nelson intercepted a pass with a five yard return to the OSU 48 where the Ducks would take over. On the drive Vernon Adams appeared wrapped up and sacked, but threw a one footed pass to Darren Carrington for a first down. Two plays later Taj Griffin would take it for a touchdown giving the Ducks a 14-7 lead. The first quarter would come to an end and Oregon would have the momentum off of Bralon Addison’s early performance and an interception by Charles Nelson.

The second quarter would begin with an Oregon State punt back to Oregon as again the Ducks Defense would hold. Bralon Addison would add 8 yards to his first quarter total. Oregon would get to just outside the 10 when Vernon Adams would be sacked for a loss of three bringing up 4th down and 8 for Oregon. Schneider would hit a 26 yard field goal to put the home team up 17-7. On the ensuing drive the Beavers would not get far and would again be forced to punt on a 4th and 6. The Beavers punt would go to the Oregon 27.

The Oregon Ducks would score again before halftime with a 37 yard touchdown pass making it the 80th straight game with a touchdown pass. Vernon Adams found Bralon Addison for the score giving Oregon a 31-7 lead after the extra point. The story line was quickly becoming Bralon Addison who on the day had over 100 yards and two touchdowns. The first half would come to an end with Oregon State gaining a total of 21 yards of total offense in the half if you negate their opening drive which resulted in a score. Oregon would start the second half with the ball.

The Oregon Ducks would get past mid field before Kirk Merritt caught a pass that was ruled a fumble and an Oregon State recovery giving the Beavers life. Quarterback Marcus McMaryion would complete a 16 yard pass to the 34 yard line, followed by a pass to Jordan Villamin getting the ball to the Oregon 30 yard line. Victor Bolden would pick up 9 yards off an end around bringing up 3rd and 1. Seth Collins would take it in for his second score of the game. The Ducks still held a 31-14 lead.

On the next drive Running Back Royce Freeman would cross the 100 yard mark for the 12th time this season becoming the only player to have over 100 yards in every game this season in College Football. Charles Nelson would come in on 4th and 2 and Adams would throw incomplete giving the ball to Oregon State at the 2 yard line. The Beavers would look to cross mid field for the third time on the day. Ryan Nall would help with a 27 yard run on the way to a 100 yard day himself. The Beavers would find themselves at the Ducks 30 yard line following a pass interference penalty on the Oregon Defense. Seth Collins would score his third touchdown of the game after a 98 yard drive for the Beavers.

The Oregon Offense would look to respond following a 45 yard return from Charles Nelson. Oregon would find themselves backed up to 3rd and 15 when Adams would find Taj Griffin who picked up 14 yards. Royce Freeman took it in for a touchdown on the next play extending the Ducks lead to 38-21 over the Beavers. The third quarter would end with Vernon Adams passing for over 300 yards in the game.

Marcus McMaryion would take the ball in from six yards out on the next Oregon State possession to get the Beavers within 10 points of the Ducks lead. The Oregon State Defense would sack Vernon Adams to start the Ducks next possession making it 2nd and 20. After a 4 yard gain it was 3rd and 16. After a penalty it was 3rd and 26. The Beavers Defense would hold getting the ball back for the Beavers Offense who was actually still in the game with just under 11 minutes left.

Victor Bolden would take the ball back 78 yards for a touchdown bringing the Beavers within three points of the lead.

Oregon would start their next drive with a 15 yard gain from Royce Freeman. Two plays later Charles Nelson would add 17 yards to the Beavers 36 yard line as the Oregon Ducks were not about to give up this game. Taj Griffin would get the ball inside the Oregon State 5 yard line. Bralon Addison would bring in his third touchdown of the game on the right side of the end zone giving Oregon back a 10 point lead. That is where Oregon would hold till the end winning the game 52-42 over Oregon State and finishing the season with the second best record in the Pac-12 Conference. Not a bad place to be considering the early season losses.

Now, the Oregon Ducks would have to wait. The rest of the Pac-12 will play on Saturday including Stanford who faces Notre Dame in Palo Alto. The Pac-12 South will also be decided on Saturday as USC and UCLA will battle it out for the Pac-12 South Title to meet Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship game next weekend.
