West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has hailed West Bromwich Albion's "brilliant" job of keeping Saido Berahino during the summer despite Tottenham Hotspur's attempt to secure his services. Bilic believes the coveted striker "might go" in the January transfer window but "West Brom will do it on their terms" as they have proved they will not sell him on the cheap.

Berahino handed in a transfer request to force his move to White Hart Lane after Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino earmarked him as the perfect back-up to Harry Kane. But West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace turned down four offers for his striker, including one reportedly worth around £23m ($34.6m).

The 22-year-old then said he would never play under Peace again but has eventually made 11 appearances for Tony Pulis's side this term, scoring three goals.

Bilic, set to host West Brom on 29 November, wrote in his weekly column at Evening Standard: "What West Brom did with Berahino was brilliant. It is very hard to be that resilient. It was like the situation with John Stones at Everton, who rejected big money from Chelsea but still bought Ramiro Funes Mori for £9.5m."

ESPN recently reported that Tottenham are set to renew their efforts to secure Berahino, while Chelsea are also closely monitoring the situation.

He said: "West Brom resisted Tottenham over Berahino but paid £15m for Rondon. OK, Berahino might go in January but if so West Brom will do it on their terms. That is the best way to show to everybody that you are a serious, big club.

"It should be like that because many 18 to 21-year-olds think they are bigger than the clubs. I'm not saying that is the case with Berahino but so many kids earn big money very young and believe they have made it."
