Fairfax County Mosque Incident: Man Charged with Using a Hoax Explosive Device

Police say that Chester H. Gore, 27, left the hoax device at the mosque parking lot at 3 a.m. Thursday.

Fairfax County Fire investigators have charged Chester H. Gore, 27, of no fixed address, in connection with damaging property and using a hoax explosive at a mosque. Three members of the mosque challenged the man and after a brief altercation, police said last week.

The incident took place at about 3 a.m. Thursday according to police.

The mosque, Dar Al-Hijrah Islamic Center, is located at 3159 Row Street in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County.

Gore is charged with using a hoax explosive device; entering the property of another for the purpose of causing damage based on religious conviction; destruction of property of less than $1,000; and possession and use of illegal fireworks, according to fire officials.

Property damage to a fence gate is estimated at $200.

Gore is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond.
