Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs) was a controversial figure for much of his career, and he continues to generate headlines in his retirement.

Mayweather voiced a strong opinion on the current boxing landscape, explaining what he believes to be a certain level of favoritism, at least politically, when it comes to certain races and ethnicities.

Mayweather believes super middleweight king Andre Ward is being forced, politically, to move up the light heavyweight division - with the goal of getting him knocked off. Ward recently signed a multi-fight deal with HBO which includes a 2016 showdown with light heavyweight king Sergey Kovalev of Russia - arguably the most dangerous fight of Ward's career.

"Whoever is forcing Andre Ward to go up to [light] heavyweight, that's not cool at all. They're trying to get him beat. From the looks of things, what's going on in the sport of boxing, they want their superstar to be Caucasian. It's obvious. And this has been going on for a very long time. They wanted me to lose to [Manny] Pacquiao, but that didn't happen," Mayweather told Fighthype.com.

Mayweather questions why there was a huge push for many years to finalize a fight between him and Pacquiao, but there is no push whatsoever, by the powers above, for Gennady Golovkin to fight Ward.

The two fights cannot be compared from a financial stand-point or even from the position of capturing the attention of the general public.

In terms of skill, Golovkin and Ward are two of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport and a showdown between the two would certainly gain the attention of anyone who follows boxing.

"I honestly feel it's not a black thing, it's not a white thing, it's the right thing, but like I said before, racism still exists in boxing. They had Hispanics and black fighters only that was dominating the sport for years. An Asian fighter comes along and makes a lot of noise, which is Manny Pacquiao. For years, they said I was a coward, I was scared, or I was ducking this guy," Mayweather explained.

"All I said is random blood and urine testing and let's make it happen. Eventually, we got to a certain point, we negotiated the fight, it happened, it is what it is. So what I'm saying is this, they were so adamant about that fight [Mayweather vs. Pacquiao], you know, but they're not adamant about Triple G fighting Andre Ward?"

Mayweather is not convinced Golovkin is worthy of the hype he's getting - until the Kazakhstan native moves up to face Ward.

"The thing is, as far as boxing, it's all about taking risks and taking chances. I did it. I took risks. I took chances. I'm just waiting to see if Triple G is going to go up and fight Andre Ward. I'm going to be convinced when he can go up and beat Andre Ward. Until then, I'm not convinced," Mayweather said.
