SAN BERNARDINO >> This is your chance to hear from Mayor Carey Davis directly — and for him to hear from you.

Davis will meet with residents from 5 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jovi’s Diner, 123 North “E” Street, for the second of a monthly event called “Evening with the Mayor.”

The first — Sept. 17 at The Green Shack — brought out 30 to 40 people, and the hope is for the series to grow, said Davis’ chief of staff, Christopher Lopez.

“It was an opportunity for the mayor to go out, talk to the residents, give them some updates on the city, the recovery plan and the progress that has been going on for the last time that he’s been in office,” Lopez said. “It’s a two-way opportunity: Not only the mayor getting his message out, but a chance for the public to ask the mayor questions and the mayor to listen to what residents have on their minds.”

There’s no specific agenda, beyond discussing the city’s recovery plan to exit bankruptcy, Lopez said.

Increased communication with the public is part of the city’s strategic plan.

The public’s thoughts are welcome during the public comment period of City Council meetings, Lopez said, but waiting for a few hours to speak for three minutes can be frustrating.

“People don’t have to stick around for a few hours to talk,” he said. “This starts at 5, which should be easier to get to and participate in.”
