Collingwood OPP: Charge Officer Who Ran Over Dog 3 Times with Cruelty to Animals

  • by: A Duggan

On Monday October 19, 2015, an officer with the Collingwood branch of the Ontario Provincial Police decided to hit and run over a dog with his cruiser, not just once, but THREE times, and then after causing extreme suffering, he shot the dog dead. He believed the dog was a coyote, but it was a pet dog, a 21 year old shepherd mix, who had accidentally escaped its yard. After being hit and run over the first time, the dog got up and tried to walk off the road, at which time the officer hit and ran over it two more times, and then shot it dead.

Deciding to use his cruiser to run over an animal three separate times is disgusting and is criminal cruelty against animals, causing extreme, unnecessary suffering. Please sign this petition and put pressure on the authorities who have the power to act, to charge this officer with criminal animal cruelty under section 445.1 of the Criminal Code. Send the message that while officers are expected to protect the public, the public will not condone violent animal cruelty as a means to carry out that protective role.

Violent and disgusting animal cruelty is never acceptable, and those we employ as police officers need to respect the law! This officer should be charged immediately.
