A little love, please, for Miami-based dotCMS, maker of Java open source content management system (CMS) software. Just yesterday, it was chosen as one of the 20 Most Promising Open Source Software Solution Providers by CIO Review.

CIO Review's editorial board and a panel of expert advisors selected the winners, with the goal of recognizing and promoting outstanding open source technologies.

In a statement, Jeevan George, Managing Editor, CIOReview, said dotCMS "has been on our radar for some time now for inspiring a revolution in the content management space."

In August, dotCMS received high marks in an independent evaluation by Arhaus Denmark-based J. Boye. The report, which outlines the key functional areas most often required in the CMS marketplace, gave dotCMS good scores in all categories and noted that it especially excels in the category of integration, where it earned a “very strong” rating.

Composite

Composite C1 is being integrated into the Orckestration commerce suite, as the result of an acquisition by Montreal-based Orckestra, a provider of cloud-based multichannel commerce solutions.

The CMS is featured alongside platform’s four current services: PIM, Commerce, Order Management and Experience Management, plus Mobile Pick and Pack. The combined product will enable clients to deliver digital solutions across content, commerce and delivery channels, particularly in .NET and in the Microsoft Azure Cloud, the community noted.

"We’ll continue to offer our free open source CMS as a stand-alone product with commercial extensions and services. In months to follow, we’ll release a new and improved incorporated GUI. We're also moving our source code to GitHub. Our community will like the advancements soon to happen in our open source project, now that we’re a part of a much bigger family,” said Composite CEO Oskar Lauritzen.

eZ Systems

The beta release of eZ Publish Platform 5.4.5 is now open to public testing.

With this release, eZ introduces an enhanced search engine and a re-engineered recommendation service. André Rømcke, VP of Engineering, explains the change in greater detail here.

"These improvements are the first among many to come out this fall, and they’ll also be made available in eZ Platform and eZ Studio, eZ’s next generation solutions launching later this year," Matthew Caprioli, content marketing associate, told CMSWire.

The community reports a 35 percent increase in North American subscriptions in the first half of 2015. Several big media publishers joined the eZ ecosystem recently, Caprioli said, and advised interested users to read more about eZ’s expansion in North America.

Hippo

Hippo is basking in the afterglow of a successful US user conference, Hippo Connect 2015 in Boston. It's one of the high points of a busy year for the Amsterdam-based community, whose milestones this year include an EMC partnership, the release of Hippo CMS 10 and placement in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web CMS.

Hippo has also expanded its global partner network, opened a German office, expanded its Boston office and grew its management team by hiring a VP of Sales EMEA and a VP of Services. Now it's focusing on Hippo.Connect Amsterdam, which will be held Nov. 5.

Joanna Madej, Hippo's head of Global Communications, said the community is dedicated to creating cohesive, relevant and consistent customer experiences. "By embracing agile and interoperable technologies like Hippo CMS, modern enterprises are sending a direct message: the days of the bloated, proprietary marketing suite solution are numbered," she told CMSWire.

Jahia

Jahia is the Signature Sponsor of CMSWire's DX Summit (#DXS15), which runs Nov. 3 and 4 in Chicago. The conference covers the emerging field of digital experience.

Three of Jahia’s in-house leaders will be presenting:

  • Web Content Management to Digital Experience: History, Vision and Disruption by Kevin Cochrane, Member of the Board
  • Managing Privacy, Ethics and CX Data by Christopher Justice, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Marketing
  • Panel Presenter by Piyush Patel, Executive Vice President Strategic Alliances & GM Americas
Jahia DX Summit

In other news, Jahia invites you to check out the new and improved Workspace Factory 3.0. Built on Jahia Solution’s core platform, Digital Factory, Workspace Factory 3.0 offers collaboration, document sharing and editing, and content publication that is efficient — "without the burden of learning a complex enterprise content management (ECM) solution."

Jahia is getting close to releasing its newest product — Marketing Factory. The product is designed to help marketers advance ‘From Personal Experience To Predictable Relationships’ via leveraged customer data for increased conversions.

Jahia participated in an international cross-channel event Sept. 21 in collaboration with DIGITAL(in)STORE by Equipmag, a trade show dedicated to point-of-sale digitization. It dovetailed with Paris Retail Week, a new event that brought together — for the first time — the retail and e-commerce communities. Jahia presenters delivered three workshops:

  • Technology: Choose A Platform by Stephane Monier, VP Business Development EMEA
  • Digital Marketing: Recruit and Retain by Emmanuel Garcin, Chief Operating Officer
  • Customer Experience: Engage Clients by Brice Revenant, Business Development

Finally, Jahia is the Gold Sponsor of JavaOne, which runs Oct. 25 to 29 in San Francisco. Industry-recognized experts will present their newest innovations, most current insights and latest product improvements through keynotes, labs and tutorials in over 400 sessions. Two of Jahia’s very own will be presenting:

  • Introducing Apache Unomi by Serge Huber, Chief Technology Officer
  • Delivering Isomorphic Templating Using Jahia’s Digital Factory by Sajid Momin, Senior Solutions Architect

Joomla

Joomla released version 3.4.4, which addresses a few issues:

  • Further en-GB language cleanup
  • Fixes for MSSQL and PostgresSQL Joomla installations
  • jQuery, HTML5Shiv and CodeMirror updates
  • Finished implementing the Joomla codestyle rules

The community credited the new release to the work of 36 volunteer contributors who generated more than 500 code commits and addressed more than 245 issues. See the list of fixed GitHub issues for details of the tracker items fixed.

So what do you give an open source CMS platform for it's birthday? How about an upgraded website? The new website is now fully responsive, adds an additional layer of security with SSL based traffic and is easier to navigate, community members explained.

Users who discover bugs, browser issues or anything broken can submit the items to the Joomla issue tracker on GitHub.

In other news, the Structure Team announced the results of the elections for the Transition Team. Leadership Members elected six community members TJ Baker (USA), Ian MacMillan (UK), Ken Crowder (USA), Helvecio da Silva (Brazil), Stefania Gaianigo (Italy) and Jon Neubauer (USA).

Learning Opportunities

The Transition Team will be completed by representatives of each leadership team: Ryan Ozimek (the board), George Wilson (PLT) and Guillermo Bravo (CLT).

As of Oct. 1, the new Transition Team officially assumed the duties of the Structure Team.

When you work hard on a community project, you want to make sure it gets the respect it deserves. The trademark team manages and defends Joomla-related trademarks and licensing on behalf of the the Joomla Community. It's a big job — and the team needs active members to pick up on tasks such as building our own trademark subdomain on the Joomla-website. It also needs license administrators to take in the requests and give follow up.

Are you interested in taking part in our team? Or do you have suggestions on who would be interested in joining? You can contact Marco Richter.

Now ... want to get out for a while? You just missed the Joomla World Conference in Bangalore, India. But you can attend:

Actually, no you didn't.. The Joomla World Conference will be held in Bangalore, India Nov. 6 to 8. (CMSWire regrets erroneously suggesting that the conference was over and promises to look more closely at the calendar in the future.) You can also attend:

Magnolia

Magnolia has released version 5.4.2. The release notes with the most important fixes and enhancements are here: https://documentation.magnolia-cms.com/display/DOCS/Release+notes+for+Magnolia+5.4.2. For example, imaging now supports TIFF images, and back-end forms with many tabs provide a pop-up for the hidden tabs.

The community had a busy September: it co-exhibited at a large digital marketing fair (dmexco in Cologne), presented at a tech-meetup at its partner Tricode’s offices and co-hosted a digital breakfast event at IBM’s client center in London.

This month, it's attending GITEX from Oct. 18 to 22 in Dubai, where it is again co-exhibiting with a partner Tinext.

Developers who want to learn more about Magnolia 5.4 can attend events in San Francisco, Chicago, New York and London.

Magnolia has been sharing it's expertise in multiple ways. Be sure to read the CMSWire article by Magnolia CVO Boris Kraft about how mobile is part of the journey — not the destination. And check out two recent webinars on YouTube. One was about using Magnolia in a microservices architecture, the other went into Magnolia 5.4’s light development approach.

Magnolia has been on the move — literally. Because it needs space to grow, it moved into a new building in Basel’s up-and-coming Dreispitz area. Check this Facebook album and this Flickr album for photos of the new office.

Nuxeo

Nuxeo has earned certification from the DAM Foundation, an independent authority for digital asset management best practices. Nuxeo earned this certification after a thorough evaluation confirmed the Nuxeo Platform fulfills the DAM Foundation’s 10 Core Characteristics of a DAM System, which defines must-have functionality that is vital for successful digital asset management.

Regarding DAM applications, CMSWire and TBWA, an international advertising agency, collaborated on a recent webinar. Hear from the experts at TBWA, and learn how they leveraged the Nuxeo Platform with Nuxeo Studio to solve the challenges of globally managing sophisticated workflows, asset types, formats and mediums, and usage rights for countless media assets including TVC, print, digital and packaging including models, music, photographers and speakers.

This paper also reviews why enterprise digital asset management (DAM) is vital to successful brand management. Discover how enterprise DAM empowers workers and managers across departments, regions and countries to design, collaborate, track, publish and re-purpose digital assets, in ways that workgroup oriented DAM tools for small teams cannot match.

In other news, Nuxeo Platform developers and users have access to on-demand courses to increase their proficiency and accelerate learning. These educational courses are available to accompany Nuxeo’s free documentation resources. A full course catalog is available here.

With the release of Nuxeo Platform 7.3, Nuxeo Platform now includes Nuxeo Live Connect, which provides native integration of the Nuxeo Platform with cloud-based Enterprise File Sync and Share (EFSS) platforms, such as Google Drive and Dropbox.

This paper reviews how to integrate cloud file-sharing tools with Enterprise Content Management to get the benefits of both platforms and develop applications that improve efficiency, support business processes, and drive results. Download here.

Nuxeo is also participating to several conferences and tradeshows: Here is where you can meet the team.

Sense/Net

Sense/Net released a new version of the ECM, Sense/Net ECM 6.5. The solution has gone through numerous performance and stability improvements affecting both the Community and Enterprise versions. It offers:

  • Scalability: With the decoupled Task Manager component, you can now choose machines other than your web and database servers to perform consuming tasks.
  • Enhanced document viewer: The document preview module, introduced in Sense/Net ECM 6.3, has more features and is more flexible than its predecessor.
  • Security: The team introduced a remodeled security component, which allows users to quickly check and modify permissions.

SilverStripe

SilverStripe has opened an office in London — and now it's time to party. Now it's holding StripeCon 2015 — The SilverStripe European Conference 2015 in that new office. The free community event, open to everyone who works in the web development world, will be held on Oct. 16 and 17.

Many speakers are lining up to talk about SilverStripe framework and/or CMS, including co-founder and CEO of SilverStripe, Sam Minnée. There will be workshops, demos and five to 10 minute lightning talks where anyone can stand up and share a short story.

The community will also be giving away five private PHPStorm licenses.

The conference is brought to you by SilverStripe, 7dots, JetBrains, Bigfork, we::codenetwerkstatt and Twisted Bytes.

Visit stripecon.eu for more information. If you want to sign up, head over to the meetup page or use the contact form on the website.
