Will The Pac-12 Conference Play Itself Out Of The College Football Playoff?

We are six weeks into the College Football season. As teams from the Pac-12 and across the country scramble for a shot at the College Football Playoff, one thing is becoming very clear. The Pac-12 Conference could very well play themself out of a spot in the College Football Playoff on New Years Eve.

To begin the season, the Oregon Ducks and USC Trojans could have been the teams with the best opportunity, but after early season losses, both teams tumbled out of the Top Ten. Utah, who beat Oregon at Autzen Stadium is currently in the Top 5 after starting the season undefeated and taking down the Oregon Ducks at Autzen Stadium a few weeks ago 62-20. Now they face an undefeated and ranked Cal Bears team on Saturday night. A loss by the Utes would put the carousel in motion once again.

So far this season UCLA, Oregon, USC, and now Utah have the chance to represent, but of course winning the rest of your respective games this season may be easier on paper than on the field.

The case for Oregon getting back to the College Football Playoff in 2015 is not very good. The Ducks have two losses, and even though they beat Colorado last weekend to get back on track, the team did not even re-enter the AP Poll and fell out of the Coaches Poll.

Confidence will be king the next two weeks as Oregon takes on the Washington Schools hosting the Cougars this weekend and visiting the Huskies next weekend before running a guantlet to end the season with games at Arizona State and Stanford and home games against USC and Oregon State. Pretty much the only thing that Oregon could do is hope everyone wins and is highly ranked. That would give them the best possible chance, but that also means that the Ducks will have to win out and hope the top teams have a loss or two which is not very likely.

Oregon takes on Washington State on Saturday at 3pm Pacific Time on Pac-12 Networks.
