RCT presents ‘The Foreigner’ at the Dixie

Ruston Community Theatre is excited to announce the return of “The Foreigner” to the Dixie stage. RCT last presented the comedy play by Larry Shue 10 years ago when the renovated Dixie Center for the Arts was reopened.

To celebrate the Dixie’s 10-year anniversary, “The Foreigner” was added to RCT’s 2015-16 season.

The play is directed by Satish Bharadvaj and sponsored by Northwood Medical Center, Dr. Ben Grigsby.

The play takes place in a rural Georgia fishing lodge where Sgt. “Froggy” Lesueur takes his pathologically shy friend Charlie Baker to get his mind off of his wife’s failing health. Since Charlie is terrified of conversations, Froggy tells the other guests at the lodge that he is from an exotic country and doesn’t speak English. Instead of peace and quiet, Charlie gets an earful of secrets and gossip, including a dastardly plot to overtake the resort! Can Charlie overcome his social anxiety and thwart these schemes?

The show features two cast members from the previous productions: Nancy Wallace playing Betty Meeks, the owner of the Meeks Fishing Lodge, where the story takes place; and Rick Godley playing Froggy, a demolition expert who frequents the lodge. The lead role of Charlie will be played by newcomer Ankunda “Anky” Kiremire. Other cast members include: Jane Wallace as Catherine Sims, Tim McCarthy as the Rev. David Lee, Kennedy Ford as Ellard Sims, and Steve Harrell as Owen Musser.

Some of the great upcoming shows include “A Christmas Story” in December, “The Diary of Anne Frank” in February and “Oklahoma!” in July, as part of the Summer Musical Series.
