Should Oregon Ducks Keep Quarterback Taylor Alie In The Mix The Rest Of 2015?

The Oregon Ducks began an experiment of sorts on Saturday against Colorado. Rather than going with a starter, they played two Quarterbacks in a game, and did it intentionally. There was no benching of the QB like the week before against Utah when Vernon Adams was ineffective and replaced by Jeff Lockie. The more experienced Lockie did start the game, but of the fifteen series that the Ducks were in Offense, walk on Taylor Alie found himself leading the charge on eight of them with Lockie getting the other seven. Will we see more of Allie in the next few weeks? I surely hope so.

Allie was a breath of fresh air in an Oregon Offense that seems to have lacked a play maker this season, at times. Yes, Vernon Adams can be just that, but not with a broken finger that has proved to be ineffective and not with Jeff Lockie who has been in the system for longer. Jeff, you can’t throw two interceptions into the end zone two weeks in a row. It’s just not acceptable. Now many are thinking that Allie may we worthy of getting to start a game at QB. I’m not sure if that is going to happen. If he does get the chance, it will certainly be over the next two weeks as Oregon faces Washington State and Washington, two teams that have yet to win a Pac-12 Conference game this season.
On Saturday, Taylor Alie was 4 for 9 and threw for 82 yards and a touchdown, he also showed off some nice footwork in rushing for 22 yards. These are not Mariota-like numbers, but he made some really good decisions and found ways to move the chains in some rough spots that both Adams and Lockie have struggled in this season. There is one thing I do know, Adams needs more time to rest his finger. What better time than the next few weeks to give him time off. If the Oregon Ducks are smart they will at least keep the rotation as it has been and keep Allie in the mix, for now. He, if nothing else, rejuvenated the Offense at the perfect time for the Oregon Ducks to salvage their season.
Oregon faces Washington State on Saturday at 3pm Pacific Time on Pac-12 Network.
