Liverpool avoided defeat in the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon, only for manager Brendan Rodgers to be axed hours later.

There was a lot of social media discussion following the sacking on Sunday, including a lot of love for potential replacements Jurgen Klopp and Carlo Ancelotti.

Both Klopp and Ancelotti have already been sounded out as the ideal candidates and former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand agreed.

He wrote: 'It's only Klopp & Ancelotti Liverpool can be going for....need to make a decision quickly (sic)'

Stan Collymore and Don Hutchison also agreed with Ferdinand, claiming on their Twitter that Klopp and Ancelotti were the only two suitable replacements.

Meanwhile, Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker simply wrote: 'Rodgers and out!'
