Pony Club Family Race Day, Sunday Sept. 27th

The Irish Pony Club will join forces with The Curragh Racecourse on Sunday September 27th when the annual Pony Club Family Race Day takes place at the famous County Kildare venue. The top class program of racing features the Juddmonte Beresford Stakes (Group 2), CL & ML Weld Park Stakes (Group 3) and Manguard Plus Amateur Riders Derby.

The objective of this exciting initiative will be not only for the Curragh to showcase horse racing to Pony Club members from all over Ireland, but most importantly for the Pony Club to celebrate the end of their busy summer season with a fun and exciting day for all the family to enjoy.

One of the most exciting aspects of the initiative is a Jockey Skills Training Course, which took place last weekend at the world renowned Racing Academy and Centre of Education in Kildare Town with 10 Pony Club members as follows:

  • Ben Harvey Ward Union
  • Ned Fox Scarteen
  • Alannah Budds West Waterford

  • Kellie McClaffery East Donegal

A Jockey Skills Display will take place on the track after the last race with the emphasis on style and skill not as an actual race. Participants in Jockey Skills course will be assessed by RACE during their weekend course for the suitability to ride in the display.

A packed program of entertainment during the afternoon will include a special Musical Ride performance by the Killinick Pony Club, while there will be presentations to the 10 Pony Club members who have been selected for Inspirational Awards,.
