Bastrop hosts Parkway in football action on Friday.

Bastrop coach Brad Bradshaw was dumbfounded after the game on Friday.

He had questions he wanted answers to and it had little to do with what happened in the final minute of the game when his team squandered a late lead to lose to Parkway 57-56 in the season opener for both teams.

"I don't understand how you can not congratulate those kids for doing the best they can do," Bradshaw said referring to the Bastrop fans following the game. "It isn't always about winning or losing. It is about will that young person compete? They ain't the ones out there in the fire. Those are the people that are supposed to love them."

Bradshaw felt his team gave everything they had and did everything the coaches asked them to do at the end of the day.

"We just need find a way to get two more points," Bradshaw said. "There are a lot of ways. We asked our kids to play as hard as they could and that is what they did."

With over 400 yards of offense and 56 points scored, the team had its share of highlight plays. Quarterback Jerry Powell passed for four touchdowns and ran for one score.

"We made a bunch of key plays," Bradshaw said. "Just need to make one more (to win the game)."

Bastrop visits Shiloh Chrisitan in Arkansas next week in their next contest.
