BASTROP – In a back-and-forth battle resembling a track meet more than the first regular season prep football game of the season, Parkway scored with 6 seconds remaing to defeat Bastrop, 57-56.

Both teams seemed to check the defenses at the door as both teams ended the third quarter with more than 350 yards of offense.

Parkway quarterback Keondre Wudtee led the Panthers on a touchdown drive that punched the ball across the goal line at the last second.

GOOD PLAY: After Parkway scored its first touchdown on an 88-yard touchdown pass by Keondre Wudtee, Bastrop answered on a 14-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jerry Powell to Isaiah Graham. The fireworks did not stop as Bastrop lead 36-27 in a game that saw a combined 63 points scored in the first half alone.

"(Powell) is the ultimate competitor," Bastrop coach Brad Bradshaw said. "That's why I want him at quarterback. That is what he embodies. He just goes out and plays and the game is still fun to him."

Powell later caught a long flea flicker with less than 9 minutes left in the game to put Bastrop in position to retake the lead. Travion Burke caught a touchdown pass from Powell later in the drive to take the lead, 50-45.

Powell passed for 247 yards and rushed for 140 yards for the Rams. Powell had four passing touchdowns and one rushing.

Wudtee finished the game 17-of-31 for 373 yards and three touchdowns. Wudtee, a Louisiana Tech commit, also ran for one touchdown for the Panthers.

"I am so proud of the character we showed tonight," Parkway coach David Feaster said. "We knew this was a tremendous place to play (at Bastrop). Bastro is going to get on a roll. You can right this down, they will beat Neville by 20."

BAD PLAY: An errant low snap by Bastrop caused a large loss on a drive in the second quarter. Bastrop turned a negative into a positive real quick with a 35-yard touchdown pass by Powell on fourth-and-15 later in the drive to take a 28-27 lead over the Panthers.

BACK TO BASTROP: The Bastrop High football team of 2005 was back on the field at halftime for the 10-year anniversary of the school’s first football state championship. The official records were later vacated by the LHSAA. The crowd showed a great appreciation for the team that set off a string of three straight state titles on the field and a dominant area for Bradshaw and the Rams’ program.

UP NEXT: Bastrop travels to Shiloh Christian in Arkansas. Parkway takes on Gladwater, Texas, on Saturday as part of the 2015 Battle on The Border at Independence Stadium in Shreveport.
