Scooby Wright hurts left knee in first quarter; father says injury 'not major'

College Football, Arizona Wildcats

Arizona linebacker Scooby Wright, the reigning Pac-12 defensive player of the year, hurt his left knee during the Wildcats' 42-32 season-opening win over UTSA Thursday night.

Wright hobbled off the field midway through the first quarter. Television cameras later caught trainers icing Wright's knee on the sideline, where he later walked with a limp and a cane.

The extent of the injury was not immediately known, though Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez said that Wright would undergo an MRI on Thursday night.

"I don't think it's the bad MCL or ACL, but I hate to speculate," Rodriguez said. "So we'll see what happens."

Tucson News Now spoke to Wright's father, who said the injury was "not major," but further details weren't immediately available.

Wright led the nation in tackles, tackles for loss and forced fumbles last season.
