IOWA CITY | Karly Stuenkel's goal in the 94th minute lifted the University of Iowa women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime victory over Northern Iowa Tuesday night.
It was the first defeat of the season for the Panthers, who were 2-0-2 after their first four matches.
Iowa scored in the 27th minute Tuesday and held that 1-0 advantage until the 72nd minute when UNI freshman Hannah McDevitt tallied her first collegiate goal.
Whitney Blunt, named the Missouri Valley Conference goalkeeper of the week earlier Tuesday, finished with seven saves.
"We played very well and fought to the end," said UNI coach James Price. "I am very pleased with the way we came back and had some good chances to win the game."
The Panthers are back in action Saturday when IUPUI visits the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Fans are encouraged to bring a book to donate.
