Improving profits will be focus of beef field day

MANGHAM – Beef producers will hear ways for improving their bottom line at the annual Northeast Louisiana Beef and Forage Field Day, which will be Sept. 17 at Goldmine Plantation, 188 Cummins Road.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the program from 9 a.m. to noon and lunch will be provided, said LSU AgCenter agent Keith Collins, one of the coordinators of the field day.

Collins said topics will include body condition scoring, nutrient removal by hay, pasture weed control, value of hay quality, economics of marketing opportunities and aerial drone demonstration and applications.

Directions to the farm:

From Winnsboro: Take Highway 618 (Lone Cedar Road) west 6 miles and veer right (north) on Louisiana 135, then 1.6 miles to Goldmine Plantation.

From Mangham: From Louisiana 15/ U.S. 425 take Louisiana 132 west 5.7 miles, turn left (south) on Louisiana 135 then 8.5 miles to Goldmine.

From Monroe: Take Louisiana 15 east to Alto, turn right (south) at Alto on Louisiana 135. Then 11.2 miles to Goldmine.
