The Oregon Football team kicks off their season next Saturday against Eastern Washington. Another Oregon team started their season on Friday afternoon in Philadelphia. The Women’s Volleyball team gave Head Coach Jim Moore his eleventh opening game win in a row to start the season. The thirteenth ranked team in the country swept Temple on the road in three straight sets, something they will have to continue to do over the next month. The season schedule for Martenne Bettendorf and her teammates will make them hardened road warriors by the time they have their first match at home in Matthew Knight Arena.

The season started in Philly and will see Oregon facing Navy and St. John’s on the road followed by tournament contests with Florida, Nebraska, George Washington and Texas State before returning to Oregon for a trip to Oregon State to start Pac-12 Conference action on September 24th. Friday afternoon the Ducks got off to a good start.

Led by Martenne Bettendorf and Lindsay Vander Weide who both finished the match with double digit kills, thirteen and twelve respectively, Oregon took a lead in the first set winning 25-15. The second set saw the Oregon Volleyball team come back from a 12-9 deficit testing the younger players, who stepped up to win the second set. Twelve players saw action in the first game of the year. Moore saw his team begin the third set with a 5-0 lead with three of the points coming off blocked shots. They would take the set 25-16.

Amanda Benson had fifteen digs for the Oregon Ducks. Maggie Scott had a double-double of sorts with thirty-seven assists with ten digs in the three game sweep to begin 2015. Up next for Oregon, a double header on Saturday with Navy and St Joseph’s.
