Real Madrid are reportedly targeting a move for Paris Saint-Germain star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

That's according to Fichajes.net (via Metro's George Bellshaw).

B/R's own Jonathan Johnson shared a France Football report at the start of the summer that fuelled speculation Ibrahimovic could be set to depart the French capital.

France Football: Only 1 of Zlatan Ibrahimovic & Edinson Cavani will remain at PSG. Club have discussed paying off last year of Ibra's deal.

Sky Germany's Jan Aage Fjortoft fuelled the rumour when he announced recently that the Swede was actively seeking a transfer, hinting that Real Madrid were a possible destination:

Re: Zlatan Expert says Zlatan could leave Europe and.....outsider is.....Real Madrid. CRonaldo and Zlatan. Wow!! 3/3

The striker would certainly fit in with Los Blancos' Galacticos ethos and has won league titles at every club he's played for since leaving Malmo in 2001, albeit Juventus were stripped of their scudetti in 2004-05 and 2005-06.

Ibrahimovic will be 34 in October, but his form has continued unabated, as he scored 30 goals last season and created a further eight.

As Bellshaw notes, should the mercurial talent join Real, it could signal the end of Karim Benzema's career at the Bernabeu, with the Frenchman heavily linked with Arsenal this summer.

Benzema recently demonstrated his intent to remain in the Spanish capital:

Karim Benzema @Benzema

For all those clowns who want to make believe things at my fans. Here this is my home ! #HalaMadridYNadaMas http://t.co/og6tMZKoft

However, his future would naturally be called into question following the arrival of another superstar striker.

Capturing a player of Benzema's calibre would be a massive statement of intent from Arsenal as they seek to challenge for the Premier League title, and if he were to link up with Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott, the Gunners would arguably possess the all-round strongest forward line in the division.

However, a lot has to happen for Benzema to even consider leaving, starting with the arrival of Ibrahimovic or a similar marquee forward.

Ibrahimovic would most likely welcome another big-money move, and Los Blancos are certainly a club he would consider despite his time at Barcelona. However, with the array of talent already available at Real, a big-money move for a 33-year-old seems unlikely.

That is particularly the case, as Madrid manager Rafael Benitez is clearly planning to include Benzema heavily this season. Per El Pais (h/t Sky Sports), he said: "Benzema is a great player. And one of my ideas this year is that he exceeds the barrier of 20-25 goals. In that, I have put a lot of confidence."

Ibrahimovic might move, but if so, it won't be to the Bernabeu. Unfortunately for Arsenal fans, the door on a move for Benzema remains firmly closed.
