Hailee Steinfeld is officially a pop star.

The 18-year-old beauty, who was previously nominated for an Academy Award for her performance in the 2010 film True Grit, released her debut single "Love Myself" earlier this month and now E! News has an exclusive look at the making of her music video!

Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the video was shot on a rooftop in downtown Los Angeles, where a crew captured "beautiful performances of [Steinfeld] just being herself and finding her personality moments shining through," Davis says.

"Everybody already knows she's a phenomenal actress. So it's really cool to bring out this other side of her and get to know Hailee as an artist and really introduce her to the world that way."

"It's kinda crazy how this all came about and came to where it is now," Steinfeld adds. "Hannah and I have been in contact for a while now and we've just kind of been spit-balling ideas back and forth, and I'm so happy with what we ended up with."

As for the meaning behind the music video?

"The rest of the video is a social message, so to speak, of this really cool mirrored cube that we're placing in different locations all around the city," Davis explains. "On the sides of the box, it says #LoveMyself in different cool fonts and it's kind of like a really cool social experiment...it's fun to get different reactions, how they react when they read the words 'love myself.'"

Steinfeld's tune is currently climbing the Billboard charts and her music video is making an impact. "It's awesome," Steinfeld says in the BTS clip.
