Promoter Don King has filed a lawsuit in the District Court of Miami, claiming that he holds a valid promotional agreement with former two division world champion Ricardo Mayorga.

BoxingScene.com has obtained a copy of the legal documents.

King is attempting to prevent the scheduled rematch between Mayorga and Shane Mosley - which is scheduled to headline an independent pay-per-view event on August 29th at The Forum in Los Angeles, California.

King names Mosley, Mayorga, Sugar Shane Mosley Promotions and GoBox Promotions as defendants.

King filed a similar lawsuit in Florida, and won, when Mayorga attempted to compete in a Mixed Martial Arts event in North Carolina in May of 2010. The entire Shine Fights card was canceled when a judge issued an order siding with King.

King claims Mayorga is still under a promotional agreement which the boxer signed in 2009. Mayorga walked away from boxing after getting knocked out by Miguel Cotto in 2009, and decided to return to the ring in 2014.

According to the legal documents [with exhibits], Mayorga signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2014, to reaffirm that King's promotional contact is still valid.

However, Mosley's legal team are disputing the lawsuit and King's move for an emergency order to prevent the Mayorga rematch.

According to a letter issued to King from Mosley's legal team [a few paragraphs found below in bold], there is doubt to the legitimacy of Mayorga's signatures on the provided King documents. In other words, Mosley's legal team believes that Mayorga himself did not sign the promotional contracts. Additionally, the Notary Public who stood witness to the signatures is also being called into question.

Attached are the Notary Search Results on the Public Notary claimed to have signed the 2009 and 2014 DKP contracts.  The 2014 notary stamp does not match the public record on file for that notary.

The notary was Grace Johansson, who was issued a license on July 10, 2006 and expired July 09, 2010. There is no record of her having a notary license until August 15, 2014, when it was renewed. The contract renewal by Mayorga was allegedly “signed” on July 10, 2014, during which the notary (Ms. Johansson’s ) had no license on record and the commission number used is not found in the Florida State Public Notary Search System, yet Ms. Johansson’s two other licensees do appear.

Additionally, the 2014 signatures of Mayorga depart significantly from the 2009 and the Mosley-Mayorga 2015 contract. Also, I should point out that address on record for Grace Johansson (501 Fairway Dr. Deerfield Beach, FL 33441), under the Florida State Notary Site, is the same address listed for Don King Productions on the contract, which would mean the Notary is working with or for Don King Productions in a very close capacity.
