Andy Murray faces potential clash with brother Jamie for first time at Rogers Cup in Montreal

  • Andy and Jamie Murray could face each other in the doubles in Montreal
  • Andy is playing with Indian 42-year-old Leander Paes
  • A first-round win would set up a clash with brother Jamie and John Peers

Andy and Jamie Murray could find themselves on the opposite end of the court from each other for the first time ever in Montreal this week.

Just three weeks after the Murrays teamed up together to help Great Britain reach the Davis Cup semi-finals, a clash between the two brothers in the doubles event at the Rogers Cup is just one win from happening.

Andy teams up with Indian 42-year-old Leander Paes and they take on Kevin Anderson and Jeremy Chardy in the first round.

A victory for Andy and Paes would set up a second-round clash against Jamie and Australian partner John Peers, who received a first-round bye as seventh seeds.

Although the pair once played each other in one singles set at a Turbo Tennis exhibition event in London in 2007 - Andy comfortably won - this would be the first time that the Murray brothers have played each other on the tour.

Last month, Andy and older brother Jamie played in the doubles rubber of the Davis Cup quarter-final against France, beating Nicolas Mahut and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in four sets.

Jamie and Peers are currently in fine form and on course to qualify for the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena for the first time after recently winning the German Open in Hamburg and reaching the Wimbledon final.

Andy also plays singles at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Montreal this week as he bids to bounce back from the disappointment of defeat to world No 53 Teymuraz Gabashvili in his opening match at the Citi Open in Washington on Wednesday.

Second seed Andy will take on Feliciano Lopez or Tommy Robredo in the second round, and could take on Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.

This is Andy's first tournament since the news emerged that he and wife Kim are expecting their first child in February.
