Verda Gates of the Ouachita Parish Republican Women’s Club writes in an email:

“The Louisiana elections are upon us. As the largest Republican Women’s Club in the state, the Ouachita Parish club has some wonderful ‘problems.’ There are many men and women running for office who represent what is good for our state. The problem is there are many good men and women, but only one office to hold.

Regardless of what many citizens think, the pay is not all that great and the Republican candidates come with a willingness to ‘serve’ the people of Louisiana. The question is, who do we vote for out of a field of really good candidates?

Ouachita Parish Republican Women’s Club is in process of hearing and meeting as many candidates as possible. If you are the citizen who studies and wants the best for Louisiana and our nation, then listening to the candidates is available to you.

Meetings are on the first Monday of each month, except holidays, then the second Monday. Each speaker is listed in the Hometown News of The News-Star. The public is invited to join us for lunch and the meeting. Lunch is offered by the West Monroe Convention Center at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $13. Our meetings can easily be the lunch hour for those who need to get back to work.

Speakers invited before Oct. 24 primary will be, attorney general candidate Jeff Landry, lieutenant governor candidates Billy Nungesser and Sen. Elbert Guillory, gubernatorial candidates Commissioner Scott Angelle and U.S. Sen.David Vitter, incumbentSen. Mike Walsworth, incumbent Rep. Jay Morris, incumbent Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon and incumbent Secretary of State Tom Schedler.

The only way to change our nation is through our elected officials. We all need to be informed. For more information call 376-2008.”
