As NFL Training Camp beings over the next few days, one former Oregon Duck will be watching the upcoming season on the sidelines with his new team. Former player Casey Matthews injured his hip during offseason training and will miss the entire season, his first with the Minnesota Vikings
.
Casey Matthews is the younger brother of Clay Matthews who plays for the Green Bay Packers. He was expected to compete for a Linebacker spot along with Audie Cole, Eric Hendricks and former Penn State Star Michael Mauti.
Matthews was selected in the 2011 NFL Draft and played the first four seasons of his career with the Philadelphia Eagles before signing a one year deal with Minnesota.
During his Oregon Career, Matthews had two-hundred forty five tackles, with over thirty of them for a loss. He also had three fumble recoveries. In his first four NFL seasons with the Eagles Matthews had one-hundred thirteen tackles, two and a half sacks and a forced fumble. He began his NFL career as a starter at Middle Linebacker before moving to the Weak Side position. He was then benched before starting at the Nickel position later that season.
The former Oregon Linebacker was placed on injured reserve ending his season before it began.
