Pac-12 ultimate road trip: Week 10

We're taking a look at the best week-by-week trips to make in the Pac-12. My editors call it the Ultimate Road Trip. I call it dangling meat for you guys until we can start writing about actual games. Chow down, gang.

Welcome to Week 10.

Saturday, Nov. 7

  • Arizona at USC

  • Arizona State at Washington State

  • UCLA at Oregon State

  • Stanford at Colorado

  • Utah at Washington

  • California at Oregon

On bye

  • None

My choice: Arizona at USC

Why: This week we’ve got ... wait for it ... wait for it ... another critical Pac-12 South showdown. We warned you early in the road trip we’d be visiting a lot of South schools. The trend continues in Week 10.

If you aren’t able to make the trip to the Coliseum, settle in for a long Saturday in front of the TV with all 12 teams playing on one day.

Last year’s matchup in Tucson got super #Pac12Afterdark-y. The Trojans had a 28-13 lead going into the fourth quarter. But the Wildcats, still undefeated at the time, seemed graced by the football gods, having pulled off the "Hill Mary" and an upset of Oregon in Eugene in consecutive games. So of course they were going to battle back.

And they did. The Wildcats cut the score to 28-26 with a minute to play and recovered an onside kick, setting up a 36-yard game-winning field goal. But the kick sailed wide right, locking up the dramatic win for the Trojans (who by the way had seemed snake-bitten after falling on the "Jael Mary" the week before).

But even though the Trojans won the last one, the Wildcats still won the South. That's what the Trojans are after this season -- and Arizona isn't going to happily yield it. With a host of offensive playmakers, a quarterback who should be better in Year 2 and the most decorated returning defensive player in the country, Arizona figures to be at the top of the South food chain.

If you hadn't heard already, the Trojans have a bit of hype coming into this season. By this point, they will have already seen Stanford, Arizona State, Notre Dame and Utah (plus Washington and California). If the Trojans are what people think they are, we'll know it by now.
