Police Warn Public About Reports of Naked Man in Area

String of indecent exposures in Ashburn may be related, says Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday that it’s investigating a series of possibly related indecent exposure cases in Ashburn.

The most recent cases were reported early Sunday, when an unclothed man was observed walking in the area of Ashburn Road and Louisa Drive at around 3:40 a.m. A second report of a naked man was made about an hour-and-a-half later in the area of the 43100 block of Hay Road, the sheriff’s office said.

Following each report, deputies set up a perimeter in the area and searched for the suspect with foot patrols, bike patrols and thermal imagers. The suspect was not located.

A similar incident was reported at about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, when two women were running in the area of Golden Meadow Circle and Ashburn Farm Parkway, and an unclothed man jumped out in front of them. One woman said she had a similar encounter Tuesday with the same man in the same area. She did not contact law enforcement at the time of that incident, the sheriff’s office said.

Similar incidents were reported by three separate victims on July 12. In all three cases, the victims told sheriff’s deputies that a naked man was walking in the area of Ashburn Farm Parkway and Golden Meadow Circle as well as Claiborne Parkway and Wayside Circle.

The three incidents occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. One victim that day reported having a similar encounter with the same man three months ago in the same area, the sheriff’s office said. She did not contact law enforcement at the time of that incident.

The suspect has been described as a dark-skinned black man, about 40 years old, 6 feet tall with a muscular build and a shaved head. The suspect has not made any verbal or physical contact with the victims in any of the cases, and has fled the scene after being noticed, the sheriff’s office said.

In light of these incidents, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to take the following steps to protect themselves when using paths and trails:

  • Always stay alert and be aware of your surroundings (Don’t wear earphones);
  • Walk, run or bike with a partner or group;
  • Let someone know your route and when you expect to return;
  • Walk, run or bike when there is likely to be a higher volume of foot traffic;
  • Avoid using paths or trails when it is dark outside;
  • Carry a cell phone;
  • Report any suspicious activity by calling the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office as soon as it is safe to do so.

Anyone with any information regarding the possible identity of the subject is asked to call Senior Deputy J. Merchant of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 703-777-0475.
