I've moved on...
...to a different domain. Why, what were you thinking? The truth is, I just woke up one day and decided it's time for a change—a metamorphosis, if you will; or, in layman's terms, if Britney can shave her head, then maybe so can I? Nevertheless, it's been a rather handsome 10 years of talking to you, and thank you for putting up with all my moodswings and terrible dad jokes. Fear not! The hormonal imbalance and jokes are more terrible on CUBICLE, see you there.

CSM White Show; Beaded tights – DIY

Question, what would you do with 2 metres of felt and cotton? My first DIY instinct would tell me to lay the felt sheet flat on the floor, then lie down and the pull the cotton sheet on as blanket. OK, that’s probably the flu residue talking. This CSM White Show was the end product of this equation= [(2m felt + 2m cotton + 5 weeks) – sleep] x pixiedust. Every year, First Year CSM Fashion Design students collaborate with its own Fashion Communication students to put on a full-scale runway show. I’d agreed to ‘model’ for Emily this time, and therefore got tossed into this lovely mess. 150 models, or should we say ‘doing-friend-a-favour’ models, had to accept there were to be only one bagel and banana per person throughout the 5 hour wait, and those unlucky few had to remain standing in heels due to the fragile construction of the dress. I’m not complaining (much), when would I ever experience a strut down any runway? It was an educational experience, if not fun.

Emily’s design was inspired by a story of two lovers who forcefully disunite as one passes away in a field of mushrooms. Hence, the design is derived by the shape of mushrooms. Check out more illustration on her blog.

Thank you for your well-wishes, I’m much much better now xx

  2. OOOH you look GOOD in white and I also recognised those DIY tights that you did a while ago XD.
You really look like this Korean girl I know as well hahaha.

  3. Oh my god! The beaded tights are so beautiful. What a great DIY!

  4. really like those legs in the sketches…….and then that shoe…..woh….I could have gone into a fit of disco in those……….never been a fan of all-white collection…..but I sure hadn’t seen a man in that….:)

  5. amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazinggggggggg!!

  6. I love your friend Emilys drawings! I obviously have a thing for white dresses as I’m newly wed (and sort of bitter for not being able to wear a wedding dress (hopfully) ever again), love some of the cuts and fabrics here :)

  7. That dress you are wearing is pretty cool and uniquely shaped and her concept is unique as well!
I really need to make embellished tights…or maybe even knee highs? I still have a pair of white ones somewhere. Mh…gotta look for them.
Ha, yea we try to eat healthy at my house but I hardly ever eat meat anway even though I am not a vegetarian. But we all really love candy so I guess the healthy factor gets kind of diminished there.

  8. You make a wonderful model, shini! Can’t see the mushroom part, I can totally see clouds or marshmallow. Nevertheless, it’s a beautiful dress, one that can be worn as a contemporary wedding dress ! :)

  9. Tis a beautiful dress, and one that I’d be proud to wear. I understand why modelling is such an aspiration for so many young women and men as it looks like all glitz and glamour, but to me it doesn’t sound like much fun. The main skills you need to be a professional are a good bone structure and the ability to hang around for hours.

  10. It looks really amazing! Project like that would be so much fun!

  13. I was staring at that side profile picture & suddenly your head turned sideways to look back at me! Freaky!! This is what I call good photography, or I could blame my medication. Who knows.

  14. I couldn’t decide whether this was a spam comment or not, so out of the blue…and the mere thought is scary! Really hope it’s not really your medication speaking :P

  15. @Shini,

Haha, I suppose the comment is rather spam-like! I was so taken aback by it myself, I felt like sharing. It would be a rather funny side-effect to laryngitis medication, though :D

    Sorrs for scaring you!

  16. I love the second picture with the violet background :)

  18. Oh Shini-Shin-Shin, you looked amazing in white, just in time for the London’s heavy snow fall I’m feeling very festive now.

I thought you were watching their show ^.- great to see your DIY tights again!!!

  19. Such an innovative and intriguing collection of clothing! I love the white and the inspiration – it’s actually quite helpful to see this as I’m basing my mock art exam on organic structures and the pleats within mushrooms. xx

  20. never has white been so luxurious and yet totally modern and conceptual! it’s breathtaking!

  24. Totally gorgeous, but I’m so the type of person who would spill something bright down myself if I wore so much white!

    Beautiful drawings too.

  30. What a beautiful post. Love those tights with the sparkly stuff.. just so into white right now. All I’m wearing is shades of white/nude/beige, just layers.. and He came home from the supermarket with instead of a few mushrooms (as I asked for) a huge bucket load, so I’ve been doing creative things with mushrooms, too!

Emily’s so talented and this post is just so beautifully put together: and probably easier than going 5 hours in heels and just a banana and a bagel. Glad you’re feeling better Shini!! xoxox

  31. The images, the designs, the hair, the details… seriously stunning and so beautiful. Perfect timing for the post when England is dripping and coated in white fluffy snow. xx

  32. i love your pictures!

  33. You are a babe. FACT.

  34. I love university fashion shows, I went to my friends one a few years back and it was amazing! They are so much more creative than what you see at fashion week, although sometimes you are forced to look twice with a ‘wtf?’ expression and a ‘no I don’t see that…’ when explained the meaning behind the masterpiece…

  35. You’re right, sometimes you can really tell that the designer made the clothes because he/she wanted to use a certain technique and THEN they attached the concept on after ;) That’s what I found myself doing in school too, I think it’s normal hahaa

  36. now i wanna eat (?) mushrooms!!! beautiful!
    i especially love the tights

  37. :D looking goood

You look great! :D I’m a sucker for anything scalloped. Those beaded lace tights are very lovely, and the girl in the last photo is absolutely striking. Your photos continue to amaze me!
