Local group schedules concert

Jon Barker and Carlie Ann Toliver will present their fourth musical concert, “Potpourri of Music,” at the Lincoln Parish Library Events Center at 10 a.m. Friday.

Joining them will be the Rev. Micky Cloud, accompanist for Barker, and Ross Smith, a pianist and associate professor of music at Centenary College.

Barker is a bass-baritone vocal soloist and presents a variety of musical styles from classical literature, to show-tunes, to pop vocals. He has taught voice and trumpet, and directed choirs in churches in Louisiana, Texas, Virginia and Maryland. He sang with The U.S. Army Chorus for three years and appeared in programs for several dignitaries. He retired from teaching at Louisiana Tech University after 40 years of university-level teaching. He has served on local, state and national committees.

Toliver has won numerous awards throughout her career in piano and dance. She is president of the sophomore class at Cedar Creek School, a member of Emerald Entertainers dance team and on the tennis team. Toliver excels in academics and has a long list of achievements. She is the daughter of Lee Ann and Duane Toliver.

Cloud is minister of music at Trinity United Methodist Church and is an accomplished organist, pianist and choral director. During his many years in this position, he has staged several successful musicals for children, youths and adults.

Smith, a highly respected pianist, and teaches piano at Centenary College, directs music at his church and is a respected leader in his denomination.
