'Depression is real': Buffy The Vampire Slayer's Nicholas Brendon asks Dr. Drew for help as he continues his battle with mental illness and substance-abuse issues

It is no secret that Nicholas Brendon has been struggling with his personal demons recently.

After four arrests and a stint in rehab in less than a year, the 44-year-old Buffy The Vampire Slayer star has reached out to Dr. Drew Pinsky for help.

On Saturday, the embattled actor made a very public plea to try to reach the host of Celebrity Rehab.

Taking to Twitter Nicholas begged for help: 'If anyone sees @drdrew, have him give a call. Could sure use a pep talk :/ #depressionisreal #helpisoutthere #keepfighting.'

Nicholas has just completed 30 days of rehab after cheeking himself into a Californian facility on June 1.

In a statement on Facebook, which he posted as he entered rehab, the star said he was trying to get help 'to treat his depression, alcoholism and substance abuse problems.'

A representative posted just last week on Facebook that he was 'accepting sobriety as one of the most amazing gifts in his life. He is looking forward to all of the positives that come with it and working hard to stay healthy as he returns to a happier life'.

The 44-year-old actor's decision to go to rehab came two weeks after his fourth arrest in recent months on intoxication-related charges.

Best known for playing the goofy and loyal Xander Harris in all seven seasons of Buffy, Nicholas has been a mainstay of fan conventions in recent years.

It has been at those conventions, however, that many of the actor's legal problems have occurred.

In all of his arrests, the star found himself in trouble with the law after allegedly becoming intoxicated and under the influence of drugs and in three incidents he was accused of damaging propriety in hotels in three different cities.

His latest arrest was in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina for public intoxication.

In March, the actor was arrested in Tallahassee, Florida, after he allegedly damaged a hotel room after demanding an upgrade as he was a 'TV star'.

An officer on the scene reported he found the one-time television heartthrob in soiled pyjama pants struggling to walk.

In February, the star was also arrested for allegedly trashing another Florida hotel room just days after announcing the end of his four-month marriage.

The star was charged with felony grand theft and criminal mischief.

Following his arrest his representative said in a statement the actor was not well: 'Nicholas is, unfortunately, battling a disease that many of us don't understand. We are working with him to improve upon the situation at hand and look toward the future.

'He's sorry for his actions and takes what happened last night very seriously. We will take great care to ensure his safety in the future.'

Legal issues: Since October 2014, Nicholas has been arrested four times for intoxication-related offenses, he is pictured here after his March arrest (left) and his February arrest (right)

In mid-October he was also arrested the night before a Comic-Con event in Boise, Idaho and charged with malicious injury to property and resisting and obstructing police officers.

Police were called to a Boise hotel following a disturbance in the hotel lobby and found Nicholas showing signs of intoxication as he ignored their commands.

The actor shortly after his arrest posted on Facebook that he was headed to rehab.

Nicholas has previously struggled with alcohol issues entering rehab in 2004 and then again in 2010 after another brush with the law.

After Buffy ended in 2003, Nicholas starred in several TV series that had limited success - most notably Kitchen Confidential, starring the then up-and-coming Bradley Cooper.

He eventually landed in the recurring role of Kevin Lynch on Criminal Minds in 2007.

Nicholas also had a major arc on Private Practice in 2010 and 2011, playing a mentally disturbed man who assaulted one of the show's main doctors, Charlotte King.
