If you happen to be a regular Minecraft player, there’s some good news for you. Ahead of the launch of Microsoft’s upcoming Windows 10 operating system, Microsoft has announced Minecraft for Windows 10. The company calls it “Minecraft: Windows Edition Beta”.
The game offers the same mechanics, but some changes can be expected. However, like all versions of Minecraft, the game offers two distinct modes: Creative and Survival. Here’s the list of features Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta has to offer:
- Craft, create, and explore online with up to seven friends playing Windows 10 Edition Beta, through local multiplayer or with your Xbox Live friends online.
- Play online and local multiplayer with other Pocket Edition players thanks to a free update, due to arrive soon after launch.
- Multiple control schemes! Switch between controller, touch, and keyboard controls with little to no effort!
- Record and share gameplay highlights with built-in GameDVR.
- Help shape the future of Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition Beta with our built player feedback mechanisms!
- Chickens, zombies, pigs, boats, armed skeletons, potatoes, zombies, baby squids, enchantment tables, villagers, naked sheep, iron golems, potions, ghasts, pickaxes, carrots, and all the weird and wonderful goodness you’ve come to expect from Minecraft.
Minecraft has around 20 million users on PC and they can can download the game from the Windows 10 store for free. As for other players, they have to pay $10 to get the game during the “beta” period, a savings from the $29 regular price for Minecraft on PC. The game is not completely finished yet, it’s still in beta and there may be some bugs present, but Microsoft will continue to work on the Windows 10 Edition as it comes out of beta.
Minecraft is already available on a wide range of gaming platforms, including Windows, Mac, Windows Phone, iOS, Android, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4 and PS Vita, and now Windows 10 is yet another addition. Microsoft is expected to launch Windows 10 operating system for desktops on 29th July, with Minecraft: Windows Edition Beta coming out on the same day.
