While iOS 8.4 users are sitting back and enjoying the 30 million+ tracks that the Cupertino company’s new Apple Music streaming service offers, spare a thought for those registered developers who are helping to test iOS 9. A large number of those registered on Apple’s Developer Program will have taken the plunge and installed the initial iOS 9 beta on either their main hardware or a test device, but it means that they simply can’t access Apple Music as it is yet to be activated in iOS 9. That could all change after a tweet by Apple’s Eddy Cue seemingly confirmed that a new iOS 9 beta will be rolled out to developers “early next week.”
Cue, who operates as Apple’s Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Services, was questioned via his verified Twitter account about the availability of a new iOS 9 beta. Rather than simply ignoring the question like most other executives would have, he did the noble thing and replied to more than one individual confirming that his company plans on rolling out a new seed of iOS 9 early next week to those who are registered on the Apple Developer Program.
Of course, one of the biggest issues with iOS 9 is the fact that it doesn’t currently serve up Apple Music or Beats 1 functionality. Considering Apple Music was officially launched yesterday on iOS 8.4, it isn’t technically an “iOS 9 feature,” but it will play a big part in the new iOS 9 experience when it launches in the fall alongside the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. iOS 9 beta 2 was released on June 23, so it’s perfectly reasonable to assume that next Tuesday would be a logical time for Apple to make a new pre-release build available.
Apple Music, which officially launched yesterday, is now signing up users to an extremely generous three-month trial and offers many firsts for the streaming industry, such as providing access to Taylor Swift’s 1989 album and back catalog, as well as Dr. Dre’s critically acclaimed Chronic album. Those trying out the Apple Music service are also able to take advantage of Beats 1, a worldwide “always on” broadcast from Los Angeles, London and New York.
Fingers crossed, that as of early next week, those developers who help fine tune iOS won’t be left out any longer.
