Oregon Ducks Closer Garrett Cleavinger Signs With Baltimore Orioles

The Oregon Ducks will be a different team in 2015 replacing some key players including Mitchell Tolman and Josh Graham. Tolman signed with Pissburgh and Graham with Atlanta. It was reported over the weekend that Oregon Ducks Closer Garrett Cleavinger has also been signed by Major League team, the Baltimore Orioles.

Cleavinger has been a key in the rotation this past season for Oregon entering in key situations and helping lead the team back to the NCAA Tournament. He had two seasons with the Ducks under Head Coach George Horton and wraps up his Collegiate career ranking fourth in appearances with seventy-two, eighth in games finished with seventeen and tenth in wins with twelve.

During the 2014 season Cleavinger had a 3.34 ERA and finished at 3-2 on the year with two saves. He held opponents to a .214 average and struck out forty nine opposing batters. He became the third Oregon Ducks closer to be drafted in as many years following two other successful Oregon players including Jimmy Sherfy who signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2013. He is into his third year in their minor league system and is 6-5 with a 3.97 ERA with 20 saves in 29 opportunities.

According to MLBTradeRumors.com, Cleavinger will receive a $500,000 signing bonus with the Orioles.
