BUDDING young actor Sam Oliver scooped an award at a drama festival for his memorable performance.

Sam is a member of Knutsford Little Theatre, which took part in the Wilmslow Festival of One Act Plays.

A group of junior actors from the theatre performed the play, The Tip of my Toga, which was written and directed by David Muncaster from the Little Theatre.

The play is about the murder of Julius Caesar, and a private detective, Maximus Flavius Maximus, who bears a striking resemblance to Sam Spade, is hired to find the killer.

The emphasis is on humour as all the characters, wearing togas but speaking in broad New York accents, lead the audience on a journey which has little to do with historical accuracy but provides plenty of laughs.

“The group were up against stiff competition from other groups entered in the junior category,” said Mr Muncaster.

“The adjudicator praised the performance of the Little Theatre’s young cast, and picked out Sam Oliver for the award for best individual performance by a junior because of his ability to hold the attention of the audience and deliver a very convincing performance.

“I was very proud of all the young actors, and Sam fully deserved his award after a performance which had the audience in the palm of his hand right from the very beginning.”
