BATON ROUGE – The first ever All-Louisiana NCAA Super Regional in Alex Box Stadium featuring No. 1 LSU and Louisiana-Lafayette, just 56 miles away, will begin Saturday, continue Sunday and will have a Monday game, if necessary, the NCAA announced on Monday night. Game times will be announced Tuesday morning.

The winner of the best-of-three Super Regional advances to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, June 13-24. No. 1 ranked and No. 2 overall seed LSU (51-10) won the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional on Monday afternoon with a 2-0 win over North Carolina Wilmington. UL Lafayette (44-19) won the NCAA Houston Regional with a 5-2 win over Rice on Monday afternoon.

LSU athletic director Joe Alleva and LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri lobbied the NCAA to let the Tigers begin their Super Regional on Saturday instead of Friday because LSU's game with UNCW was moved from Sunday night to Monday afternoon because of projected bad weather that never arrived. This meant one fewer day off for Tiger pitchers had the Super Regional started on Friday.
