Alexander Skarsgård sports a new look in the new film The Diary of a Teenage Girl, which sees him playing a controversial role.
In the movie, a coming-of-age drama set in the '70s in San Francisco, the True Blood alum plays Monroe, a man dating a woman named Charlotte, played by Kristin Wiig, 41. He ends up having a sexual affair with the protagonist and narrator, her daughter, Minnie. Who's 15. And was a virgin. She's played by British actress Bel Powley, 23. In California, the age of consent is 18 and has been since 1913.
"I had sex today," Minnie says in the film, as seen in the first trailer, released this week. "This make me officially an adult."
The Diary of a Teenage Girl is based on Phoebe Gloeckner's 2002 graphic novel, The Diary of a Teenage Girl: An Account in Words and Pictures. The movie also stars Christopher Meloni, 54, and Revenge alum Margarita Levieva, 35, and marks director Marielle Heller's directorial and screenwriting debut.
The Diary of a Teenage Girl debuted at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival in January and is set for release on Aug. 7.
