Last month, folk music legend and political activist Guy Carawan died at the age of 87. Guy and his wife Candie were stalwart forces in both the national Civil Rights movement and East Tennessee's folk music scene.
It was Guy Carawan who introduced the song "We Shall Overcome" to the burgeoning civil rights movement and the song eventually became a powerful anthem for change in America. On this episode of Dialogue, we remember Guy Carawan with Pam McMichael, Director of the Highlander Research and Education Center, where Guy was music director. Music historian and curator Bradley Reeves also joins us, as well as singer, musician and close friend Nancy Brennan Strange.
