Tim Whitby/Getty ImagesQueen J.K. Rowling is at it again. And by "it," we mean she's shutting down awful trolls on Twitter who really should never be allowed near social media. Or a computer. Or humans. Or civilization in general.
We're of course talking about the Westboro Baptist Church.
The Harry Potter author recently tweeted about the news that Ireland had voted in favor of marriage equality, calling it "extraordinary and wonderful." Fans tweeted back about the historic moment, and it eventually led to a Dumbledore mention, as J.K. has confirmed that the Hogwarts headmaster was gay.
Rowling then shared a meme about Dumbledore and Gandalf from Lord of the Rings getting married (which most fan fiction fans would agree is not exactly a surprising match), and she pointed out that the two wizards could now get hitched in Ireland.
This is when Westboro decided to butt in because that's when they offer their opinions: when nobody asked them and when the human race would rather shove a rusted bike chain through their ears than listen to what that organization has to say about anything.
The church shared this collage of Dumbledore and Gandalf, featuring words like "f-g flag" and "God hates Ireland" with the tweet: "So @jk_rowling wants Dumbledore & Gandalf to marry in Ireland; if it happens, WBC will picket!"
First of all, we would love to see Westboro "picket" a wedding between two fictional characters. How does one do that? Good luck with that, you guys. Second, have fun pissing off both the Lord of the Rings fanbase and the Harry Potter fanbase. Trust us, those are not fandoms you want to upset. They outnumber you about 10,000 to one and that's a low estimate. So, yeah, go ahead and picket this wedding. See how that works out for you.
Of course, those were logical sentences we just wrote and the Westboro church isn't known for being that great at handling logical thoughts or ideas so we're sure they just read them as: "hklud wcioua wfgoup GAY qopivxawpuf vcwiewuac gopiuos GAY vnwaqqq."
Sidenote: Who at WBC is responsible for this 1995-looking Clipart collage that they have going on in this tweet? If you're going to spread hateful messages on social media, at least make them look like they weren't created by a MS-DOS program. Damn.
J.K., being the classy woman she is, responded with one simple tweet that effectively shut down Westboro's hateful campaign against the fictional characters and insulted them at the same time:
"Alas, the sheer awesomeness of such a union in such a place would blow your tiny bigoted minds out of your thick sloping skulls," she wrote. Get 'em, Jo!
So for those whose sole mission in life is not to picket funerals, spread disgusting discriminatory messages and completely forget Jesus' message of love and acceptance, you love J.K. Rowling's clap back and you're proud to see another country give marriage equality to all.
