A Monroe man was arrested, accused of battery on his girlfriend with a broom during an argument.

Monroe Police responded to the 600 block of South Third Street around 1 a.m. Tuesday in reference to a domestic abuse complaint. Police made contact with the victim, who said her boyfriend of seven months attacked her with a broom and chased her from the residence.

Police noted a raised mark on the victim’s back, stretching from her left shoulder to the right side of her neck.

Police made contact with Henry Smith, who appeared to be intoxicated, according to the police report. He told police they had a verbal argument but he did not hit his girlfriend.

Police found a metal broom that was broken in half. The width of the broom matched the width of the mark on the victim’s back.

Smith was booked into the Ouachita Correctional Center on domestic abuse charges.
