See the Progress at Two Greenpoint Landing Buildings

Work has begun on two buildings that are part of Greenpoint Landing, the 5,000-apartment megaproject that will turn an underdeveloped swath of north Brooklyn waterfront into something akin to Battery Park City. YIMBY visited the sites of 21 Commercial Street and 33 Eagle Street to find that construction on the Handel Architects-designed buildings is moving right along, with the six-story, 93-apartment building on Commercial Street across from the Greenpoint Playground nearly at full height. The building began its ascent in March. When complete, it will have eight ground-floor apartments and 2,557 square feet of street-level commercial space topped by five stories, each with 17 apartments. The entire building at 21 Commercial Street will be priced below market rate.

Along with 21 Commercial Street, 33 Eagle Street will eventually rise 70 feet but will stand seven stories tall. When complete, the building will contain 98 apartments spread over 86,736 square feet. It will also have 1,514-square-feet of ground-floor retail space. Both buildings are expected to be complete in 2016.
