COVINGTON — Bellevue Christian’s Bennett Close recorded a hat trick in the Vikings’ win over South Whidbey in the 1A State Quarterfinals match Saturday, ending the Falcons’ season.
Close scored two of his three goals in the match within the first 20 minutes, once in the 18th and again in the 22nd. South Whidbey made it a one-goal game heading into halftime, scoring with a minute left in the first half. Close struck again in the second half, unloading a shot from around 40 yards out to make it 3-1 Vikings.
The Falcons tried to claw back in the final minutes, scoring in the 76th minute, but fell short of the equalizer.
