The Ouachita Lions football team lost one of their own Saturday as freshman Kenton Norman was the victim of an apparent drowning in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Details of the incident were still being gathered by the Ouachita administrators late Saturday.

Ouachita coach Jeff Fitzgerald confirmed the passing of Norman in an interview with The News-Star Saturday evening.

Fitzgerald said details of what happened were unknown as he had heard "five or six different stories."

Fitzgerald opened the field house late Saturday for players to meet and begin the grieving process.

One thing Fitzgerald was certain about was the love and admiration Norman had from all at Ouachita.

"He was a great kid," Fitzgerald said. "He was the leader in that class (of 2018). He was a loveable person."

This is the second tragedy to strike the Ouachita football program in the last two years.

Dillon Neal, 17, was killed in an automobile accident on November 2, 2013 in Monroe.

More information on the death of Norman is expected in the coming days. Continue to follow The News-Star for more updates.
