Oregon Starting Pitcher Cheridan Hawkins was in post season form on Friday night for what could have been the second to last game ever played at Howe Field. The Ducks Junior threw all seven innings giving up just two hits ans striking out fourteen in a win over North Carolina State. It was the first game of a best of three series in the NCAA Super Regionals in Eugene. Hawkins lone blemish was a first inning home run from NC State’s Renada Davis. She then settled down for three straight strikeouts. It was all Hawkins from there.

The Oregon Offense found their footing in the fourth inning scoring four runs to take a four run lead. Oregon tried to score in the third but stranded Danica Mercado at third base. The bottom of the fourth started with an error from the Wolfpack and Oregon made them pay with four runs. The Ducks would tack on two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-1 lead. Hawkins was the only pitcher in the circle for the night and picked up a big win. In the best of three series, NC State has some work to do and must win the first game tomorrow to stay alive.

Oregon can close out Howe Field with a win tomorrow at Noon over NC State. A victory moves Oregon onto the Women’s College World Series starting next weekend. Game 2 on Saturday will be broadcast on ESPNU.
